Acts 21:18

Acts 21:18
Next Verse

And the [day] following Paul went in with us unto James; and all the elders were present.

Note 3 at Acts 21:18: This is the James who was the Lord's half brother (see notes 2 at Jn. 2:12, p. 88; note 3 at Mk. 1:19, p. 115; note 15 at Acts 12:17, p. 644). This James was the head of the Jerusalem church who Paul and Barnabas had appeared before in Acts 15.

This is the last mention of James in Acts and it is not revealed in scripture what happened to him. The first century historian, Josephus, wrote that James was illegally tried by the Sanhedrin and stoned to death. He dated James' death as occurring between the governorships of Festus and Albinus. Festus died in A.D. 62 therefore, this would be the approximate year of James' martyrdom.
