And when they were escaped, then they knew that the island was called Melita.
Note 1 at Ac 28:1: The Melita where Paul was shipwrecked is now called Malta. It is located in the Mediterranean Sea about sixty miles south of Sicily. The island is small, measuring only twenty miles long and eight miles wide at its widest point. On the northern coast of the island is a place called St. Paul's Bay. This is the traditional site of Paul's shipwreck.
