And when they were escaped, then they knew that the island was called Melita.
Note 1 at Acts 28:1: The Melita where Paul was shipwrecked is now called Malta. It is located in the Mediterranean Sea about fifty miles southwest of the southern most point on the coast of Sicily. The island is small measuring only twenty miles long and twelve miles wide at its widest point. On the northeast coast of the island, there is a place called St. Paul's Bay which is the traditional site of Paul's shipwreck.
