Colossians 1:12
Next Verse

Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light:

Note 29 at Col. 1:12: Notice that Paul said the Father "HATH made us meet." The Lord is not going to enable us in the future. He's already done it. As John 1:12 says, "But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God...." The Greek word for "meet" is HIKANOO and means "to make sufficient or render fit" to partake of God's inheritance for the saints (Thayer). Every child of God has been supernaturally enabled to manifest the blessings of our inheritance. The NIV translation says, "has qualified you." The ability is there, we just have to use it.

Note 30 at Col. 1:12: An "inheritance" is actually an "allotted portion." It is described as "eternal life" in Matthew 19:29; "And every one that hath forsaken houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my name's sake, shall receive a hundredfold, and shall INHERIT everlasting life." Thayer's Greek Lexicon describes it as "the part which one will have in eternal salvation, salvation itself, the eternal salvation which God has assigned" and all the benefits and blessings of which it consists.
