Colossians 3:20

Colossians 3:20
Next Verse

Children, obey [your] parents in all things: for this is well pleasing unto the Lord.

Note 3 at Col. 3:20: One thing that pleases the Lord is a child that honors and obeys his or her parents (Prov. 1:8; 6:20; 7:1; 23:22; Eph. 6:1). A special promise is attached to this command that insures long life and prosperous days (Eph. 6:3).

Some examples of such godly children are: Isaac (Gen. 22:6-10), Samuel (1 Sam. 2:18), David (1 Sam. 17:20; Ps. 71:5), Josiah (2 Chr. 34:3), Esther (Ester 2:20), John the Baptist (Lk. 1:76-80), Jesus (Lk. 2:49), Timothy (2 Tim. 3:15).

Other exhortations to children include: hearkening unto their parents' instruction (Prov. 1:8; 6:20; 23:22), remembering the Creator in the days of their youth (Eccl. 12:1), caring for and repaying their parents (1 Tim. 5:4), respecting their father and mother (Lev. 19:3), learning the scriptures (2 Tim. 3:15), fearing the Lord (Ps. 34:11), hearkening unto wisdom (Prov. 13:1).

Obedience to parents as stated in Colossians 3:20 is to be in "all things." The only exception is when parents demand something contrary to God's ways and decrees (Acts 5:29).
