Ephesians 2:11
Previous Verse
Ephesians 2:11
Next Verse

Wherefore remember, that ye [being] in time past Gentiles in the flesh, who are called Uncircumcision by that which is called the Circumcision in the flesh made by hands;

Note 1 at Eph. 2:11: Paul begins these verses by the statement, "Wherefore remember." It is always good to remind ourselves what we were apart from God's saving grace. It is an antidote against pride and self-righteousness.

Our memory is a powerful force that we often neglect. Peter referred to our memory four times in his second epistle as a way of stirring ourselves up (2 Pet. 1:12, 13, 15; 3:1). One of the main purposes of the Old Testament Sabbath was to cause the Children of Israel to remember (Dt. 5:15). A person who remembers what he used to be will have a clearer understanding of who he is now (see note 4 at v. 13, below).
