Ephesians 4:25
Previous Verse
Ephesians 4:25
Next Verse

Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbour: for we are members one of another.

Note 19 at Eph. 4:25: The word "Wherefore" means, "for which reason or purpose." Paul is detailing the consequences of putting off the old man (v. 22) and putting on the new man (v. 24). The old_man lied. The new man doesn't. In verse 26, the old man used anger for selfish purposes. The new man has a godly anger (see note 21 at v. 26). In verse 28, the old man stole. The new man works so that he can bless others. In verse 29, the old man spoke vile things, but in contrast, the new man only speaks things that edify and encourage others.

Note 20 at Eph. 4:25: All believers are united to each other through the body of Christ (see note 14 at 1 Cor. 12:27, p. 934). Lying to a member of the body of Christ is like lying to yourself (see ref. o at this verse). You will be damaged.
