Ephesians 4:31 |
Next Verse |
Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice:
Note 26 at Eph. 4:31: Bitterness, wrath, and anger are related to each other and at times may be so interdependent that they are hard to distinguish from each other. Bitterness is the mildest of these three words. It could describe someone who is just resentful towards another. Bitterness does not have to be expressed. Wrath is describing a violent anger or rage which is expressed. Anger can be concealed. It does not have to be expressed (see ref.'s i and j at this verse).
Note 27 at Eph. 4:31: Strong defines "clamor" as "an outcry (in tumult or grief.)" It comes from a word that means "to shout." The Wuest Word Studies defines it as "the out cry of passion, the outward manifestation of anger, brawling."
