Galatians 3:8
Previous Verse
Galatians 3:8
Next Verse

And the scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the heathen through faith, preached before the gospel unto Abraham, [saying], In thee shall all nations be blessed.

Note 12 at Gal. 3:8: The scripture "foresaw" that God would justify the Gentiles through faith. The word "foreseeing" carries the idea of "predicting or declaring ahead of time" this good news of the gospel (see note 1 at Rom. 8:29, p. 801).

Note 13 at Gal. 3:8: How did this quote from Genesis 12:3 (see Parallel Scripture for this verse) contain the gospel? He explains this later in this same chapter. God's covenant was with Abraham and his seed (singular-see note 22 at v.16, p. 1068), not seeds (plural). This singular seed was none other than Christ (v. 16). The fact that all nations would be blessed through Him was reference to the fact that Gentiles would be saved without becoming Jews. This foretold salvation by grace (see note 5 at Gal. 1:6, p. 1053) instead of works or law.
