Galatians 3:11
Previous Verse
Galatians 3:11
Next Verse

But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, [it is] evident: for, The just shall live by faith.

Note 16 at Gal. 3:11: Since the law placed a curse on sin (v.10), it should have been evident that the law could not bring justification since all have sinned (Rom. 3:23). Yet the Jews had missed that point. Now Paul quotes another Old Testament scripture which clearly states that faith was the only way to justification with God (Hab. 2:4-see O.T. Scripture cited in this verse). "There are two ways of rendering this quotation: either 'the just shall live by faith' (NAB, Phil), or 'the just through faith shall live' (TEV, NEB, RSV)." Faith is what imparted spiritual life, not works of the law.
