Galatians 4:27 |

For it is written, Rejoice, [thou] barren that bearest not; break forth and cry, thou that travailest not: for the desolate hath many more children than she which hath an husband.
Note 7 at Gal. 4:27: This verse is a quotation of Isaiah 54:1 from the Septuagint (the Greek translation of the Old Testament-see O.T. Scripture cited in v. 27, this page). The "barren" in this verse refers to Sarah. She was told of the Lord to break forth into singing and rejoicing before she became pregnant. The barren Sarah rejoiced at the promise of God through faith (Heb. 11:11) and through the promised seed (i.e. Christ-Gal. 3:16) she had infinitely more children than her slave Hagar (all believers are Abraham's seed-see note 3 at Gal. 3:29, p. 1071).
