He saith unto them, Come and see. They came and saw where he dwelt, and abode with him that day: for it was about the tenth hour.
Note 3 at Joh 1:39: The Jews counted time from sunrise, or approximately 6:00 a.m. (example: "third hour" in Ac 2:15 is 9:00 a.m.). That would make the tenth hour 4:00 p.m., or just about two hours before dark. It is possible, however, that John used the Roman method of reckoning time from midnight, and that would make the tenth hour 10:00 a.m. (see note 6 at Joh 19:14).
