John 2:6
Previous Verse
John 2:6
Next Verse

And there were set there six waterpots of stone, after the manner of the purifying of the Jews, containing two or three firkins apiece.

Note 6 at Jn. 2:6: Scholars refer to a firkin as being equal to about 9 gallons. That would mean these 6 waterpots full of water turned into between 108 to 162 gallons of wine. This illustrates God's idea of abundance as does the 12 baskets of fragments left over from feeding the 5,000 men (Mt. 14:15- 21; Mk. 6:33-44; Lk. 9:11-17; Jn. 6:5-14) and the seven baskets of food remaining after the feeding of the 4,000 men (Mt. 15:32-38; Mk. 8:1-9). Compare with 2 Corinthians 9:8-11.
