Next Verse

And when he had made a scourge of small cords, he drove them all out of the temple, and the sheep, and the oxen; and poured out the changers' money, and overthrew the tables;

Note 2 at Joh 2:15: This cleansing of the temple recorded by John must have been different from the cleansing of the temple recorded in Mt 21:12-17, Mr 11:15-19, and Lu 19:45-48. John's account takes place at the very beginning of Jesus' ministry, while the other Gospel writers recorded a cleansing that took place exactly three years later during the last week of Jesus' ministry before His crucifixion. Even Jesus had to repeat a lesson because of the hardness of people's hearts.
