But Jesus did not commit himself unto them, because he knew all [men],
Note 2 at Joh 2:24: The dictionary says to "commit" is "to put in trust or charge; entrust. To consign for future use." Jesus did not entrust Himself or His ministry to these people although they believed. They had not been endued with power (Lu 24:49), nor had they been proven (1Ti 3:6 and 10). Jesus was much more concerned with the quality of witness than most of our evangelistic outreaches are today.
