Next Verse

But Jesus did not commit himself unto them, because he knew all [men],

Note 2 at Jn. 2:24: The dictionary says to commit is "to place in trust or charge; consign; entrust." Jesus did not entrust Himself or His ministry to these people although they believed. They had not been endued with power (Lk. 24:49), nor had they been proven (1 Tim. 3:6 and 10). Jesus was much more concerned with the quality of witness than most of our evangelistic outreaches are today.
