John 3:23
Next Verse

And John also was baptizing in Aenon near to Salim, because there was much water there: and they came, and were baptized.

Note 1 at Jn. 3:23: "Aenon" is a Greek name which was probably derived from the Aramaic word "enavan" meaning "fountains." The exact location is not known, but Jerome, writing in A.D. 384, placed it in the neighborhood of modern ed-Deir where there are seven springs and extensive ruins. This would locate Aenon west of the Jordan River in the region of Samaria, and would fit the description in this verse of much water being there.
