John 3:36 |
Next Verse |
He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.
Note 3 at Jn. 3:36: Eternal life is something that all "born-again" believers possess. It doesn't take place in the future but is a present reality. John 5:24 says, "Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life." Scriptural salvation is a reality that we can know we've experienced (1 Jn. 5:13). See note 94 at John 17:3, page 444.
Note 4 at Jn. 3:36: There is coming a future time when God will pour out His wrath on all the earth. (Examples are Rev. 6:17; 11:18; 14:19; 15:1,7; 16:1,19; and 19:15). However, in this present age, Jesus has come not to condemn men but to bring them grace and truth (Jn 1:14; 3:17). Those who do not believe on the Son are presently under the wrath of the Old Testament law (Jn. 5:45; Rom. 4:15; Gal. 3:10), and, unless they repent, will suffer the wrath of God eternally (Rom. 2:6-9; Rev. 20:13-15).
