Next Verse |
Then cometh he to a city of Samaria, which is called Sychar, near to the parcel of ground that Jacob gave to his son Joseph.
Note 3 at Joh 4:5: "Sychar" is supposed by many to be a Greek corruption of "Shechem," which was about thirty-two miles north of Jerusalem and six miles southwest of Samaria, in the valley between Mount Ebal and Mount Gerizim. Others believe it to be where the present-day village of Askar is located on the eastern slopes of Mount Ebal.
