Next Verse |
Then cometh he to a city of Samaria, which is called Sychar, near to the parcel of ground that Jacob gave to his son Joseph.
Note 3 at Jn. 4:5: "Sychar" is supposed by many to be a Greek corruption of "Shechem," which was about 31.5 miles north of Jerusalem and 6 miles SE of Samaria in the valley between Mt. Ebal and Mt. Gerizim. Others believe it to be where the present day village of Askar is located on the eastern slopes of Mt. Ebal.
