Note 3 at Jn. 4:17: This is a very important commentary by Jesus on the state of marriage. Jesus clearly says the man whom this woman was living with (and having sexual relations with) was not her husband. Therefore, God does not recognize "common law" marriage. A marriage ceremony and exchanging of vows is required by God to have a husband and wife relationship.
