John 5:20
Previous Verse
John 5:20
Next Verse

For the Father loveth the Son, and sheweth him all things that himself doeth: and he will shew him greater works than these, that ye may marvel.

Note 5 at Jn. 5:20: Jesus is called the wisdom of God (1 Cor. 1:24-30) and Colossians 2:3 says all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge are hidden in Christ. As deity, Jesus has always existed (Mic. 5:2; Jn. 8:58; 17:5,24; Eph. 3:9; Col. 1:17; Rev. 22:13), and He was the wisdom of God at creation (Ps. 104:24; Prov. 3:19 with 1 Cor. 1:24 and Eph. 3:9). Why then did Jesus have to increase in wisdom (Lk. 2:52) and have the Father show Him what to do?

The answer is found in Philippians 2:6-7. Jesus was in the form of God and was equal with God but made Himself of no reputation and took upon Himself the form of a servant. In His spirit man, Jesus was still the wisdom of God, but His physical brain had to be educated (Jn. 8:28). Although Jesus was God, He became as one of us (Heb. 2:9-18; see note 1 at Lk. 2:52, p. 30).

Through the new birth, we have received the mind of Christ in our spirit man (1 Cor 2:16; Col. 3:10; 1 Jn. 2:20,27) and are in the process of growing in wisdom by drawing this knowledge out of our spirits and renewing (or reprogramming) our minds.
