Next Verse |
I receive not honour from men.
Note 20 at Joh 5:41: Re 4:11 and many other scriptures (ex. Mt 2:2, 8:2, 9:18, 14:33, 15:25, 20:20, 28:9, 17; Mr 5:6; Lu 24:52; Joh 9:38, and 20:28-29) show that we are to honor Jesus. In this same discourse, Jesus instructed all people to honor Him even as they honor the Father (Joh 5:23), so why would Jesus say He would not receive honor from people? He was simply saying that He doesn't need anyone's approval (Joh 5:34). He was not a people-pleaser but sought the honor that came from God alone (Joh 5:44). That's what made Him a faithful messenger (Joh 5:30 and Re 1:5).
