If a man on the sabbath day receive circumcision, that the law of Moses should not be broken; are ye angry at me, because I have made a man every whit whole on the sabbath day?
Note 5 at Joh 7:23: The actual doing of God's will (i.e., destroying the works of the devil, 1Jo 3:8) always takes precedence over adhering to any symbolic observance such as keeping the Sabbath (see note 1 at Joh 5:16). Loving your neighbor as yourself would include Jesus using His power to minister to a man's physical needs even on the Sabbath day (see note 2 at Joh 5:18).
