(But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet [given]; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)
Note 11 at Jn. 7:39: This statement proves that the Holy Ghost was not given to men in this manner until after Jesus was glorified. Jesus did say at the last supper with His disciples, "Now is the Son of man glorified" (Jn. 13:31), but other scriptures reveal that this statement must have been prophetic announcing that the time had come for Jesus to be glorified. John 12:16 clearly states that the disciples didn't remember the Old Testament prophecies concerning Jesus riding into Jerusalem on an ass' colt until after He was glorified, referring to His resurrection. Jesus also prayed to the Father in John 17:5 "glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was." This prayer was spoken after Jesus' statement in John 13:31. The glorification spoken of here then must have taken place when Jesus was raised from the dead or at His ascension when He was seated at the Father's right hand. At any rate, this shows that no Old Testament saint or believer in Jesus had this type of indwelling of the Holy Spirit until after Jesus was glorified.
