Next Verse

Hath not the scripture said, That Christ cometh of the seed of David, and out of the town of Bethlehem, where David was?

Note 12 at Joh 7:42: Jesus was born of the seed of David in the town of Bethlehem; however, Jesus was never mentioned countering His critics with this revelation. Judging by Nicodemus' lack of response to the Pharisees' question about this very thing (Joh 7:52), it is evident that many of Jesus' followers were also not aware of His birth in Bethlehem. There is no explanation in Scripture of why Jesus remained silent about this issue. Once again, we see that their logic wasn't wrong but that they had based it on assumptions that were regarded by most as true when they were not (see note 7 at Joh 6:42). A casual consideration of Jesus' claims may cause people to make a similar mistake in judgment. However, when people seek with their whole hearts (Jer 29:13) to know the truth about Jesus, they will find (Mt 7:7-8) the truth (Joh 14:6).
