John 8:31
Previous Verse
John 8:31
Next Verse

Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, [then] are ye my disciples indeed;

Note 8 at Jn. 8:31: The Greek word interpreted as disciples, "mathetes," means "a learner--indicating thought accompanied by endeavor." Jesus had more than twelve disciples (see note 1 at Mk. 3:14, p. 108), and the statements made in these verses are intended for anyone who wants to be a follower of Jesus. True Bible faith in Jesus produces salvation, but being a "disciple indeed" comes only through a maturing in the knowledge of and action on the Word of God.
