And a stranger will they not follow, but will flee from him: for they know not the voice of strangers.
Note 4 at Jn. 10:5: Once again, this statement looks contrary to experience. The Bible, as well as current observation, is full of examples where believers have heard the wrong voice and have been led into error. Either you have to say any Christian who has mistaken Satan's voice for God's leading was not a true sheep or this has to be explained, as in note 3 at John 10:3, page 240. God speaks to our spirit but our mind is not always listening. Likewise, Satan speaks to our mind but our spirit is never listening. Our born-again spirit knows all things (1 Cor. 2:16; Col. 3:10; 1 Jn. 2:20) and cannot sin (1 Jn. 3:9). It will never listen to the voice of a stranger. Therefore, if we would just walk in the spirit, we would not fulfill the lust of the flesh (Gal. 5:16).
