John 10:25 |
Next Verse |
Jesus answered them, I told you, and ye believed not: the works that I do in my Father's name, they bear witness of me.
Note 1 at Joh 10:25: Jesus had already revealed who He was in many ways. His miraculous works certainly revealed who He was (Joh 5:36 and 10:25), and Jesus said the people of that generation would be condemned on the Day of Judgment for rejecting this witness (Lu 10:12-16).
Jesus had also clearly revealed that He was the Christ, both in the synagogue at His hometown of Nazareth (Lu 4:18-21) and when speaking to the Samaritan woman at Jacob's well (Joh 4:25-26). Joh 5:17-23, 6:32-59, and 8:12-59 are long discourses in which Jesus explained who He was. These teachings are interspersed with many statements like, "Before Abraham was, I am" (Joh 8:58), and these could only be understood by the acceptance of Jesus as the Christ, God "manifest in the flesh" (1Ti 3:16).
Many other statements of Jesus' (Mt 12:42, 16:16-17; Joh 2:16-17, 3:16, 6:35, 48, 51, 8:12, 58, 9:5, 10:7-14, 11:25, 14:6, 15:1, and 5) revealed who He was to those who had ears to hear (see note 3 at Mt 11:15).
