My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:
Note 2 at Jn. 10:27: The Greek word used for "know" here is "ginosko" and it means to know experientially as contrasted with the Greek words "oida" or "eido" which mean to know intuitively. The same word is used in Matthew 1:25 and Luke 1:34 referring to sexual relations. This knowing, then, is not just intellectual but a personal, intimate understanding (see note 3 at Jn. 3:36, p. 52; see note 94 at Jn. 17:3, p. 444).
