And this spake he not of himself: but being high priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus should die for that nation;

Note 4 at Jn. 11:51: This is an example of how a man can be unconsciously used of God because of the office he stands in even if his heart isn't right. Caiaphas thought he was speaking only of political expediency in killing Jesus, but God was prophesying through him the substitutionary atonement of Jesus for the sins of the whole world.
