And this spake he not of himself: but being high priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus should die for that nation;
Note 4 at Joh 11:51: This is an example of how people can be unconsciously used of God because of the office they stand in even if their hearts aren't right. Caiaphas thought he was speaking only of political expediency in killing Jesus, but God was prophesying through him the substitutionary atonement of Jesus for the sins of the whole world.
