He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal.
Note 3 at Joh 12:25: Jesus had spoken this truth on other occasions (Mt 10:39, 16:25; and Mr 8:35). It has direct applications to us denying ourselves and following Jesus (see note 4 at Lu 9:24). However, in this instance, Jesus was applying this to Himself. Jesus was facing losing His life so that He could find it again (Mt 16:25 and Mr 8:35). Jesus practiced what He preached.
