Next Verse |
Believe me that I [am] in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works' sake.
Note 16 at Joh 14:11: Jesus here stated two bases for people's faith in Him. They can either believe in Him because of all the evidence or believe in Him just because of His Word. Jesus put the greater blessing on those who make His Word the basis of their faith (Joh 20:29, see note 2 at Mt 8:10 and note 1 at Mt 11:7). He went on to declare in Joh 14:12 that those who base their faith on Him alone will be able to produce the same works that He did and even greater.
