John 15:9
Previous Verse
John 15:9
Next Verse

As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love.

Note 54 at Joh 15:9: This is an amazing statement. Jesus was worthy of all the love given unto Him by His Father, but we aren't. How could Jesus love us with the same love that His Father had for Him? This is because God's love is unconditional and isn't given based on our performance. It goes beyond our ability to understand it, but we can accept it through faith (1Jo 3:1-2).

Note 55 at Joh 15:9: Jesus continues loving us because His love wasn't based on our performance in the first place. But we can refuse His love, or else Jesus would not have told us to continue in His love (see note 56 at Joh 15:10).
