John 15:12
Previous Verse
John 15:12
Next Verse

This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.

Note 59 at Jn. 15:12: Notice that Jesus said that love was His commandment (singular). There were other commandments that He gave, but just as He summed up all the Old Testament commandments into two (see note 1 at Mt. 22:36, p. 382), so all His New Testament commandments can be summed up into one commandment of love for God and our fellow men.

Note 60 at Jn. 15:12: Some people put Jesus in a totally different class than themselves, thereby excusing themselves from following His example because, after all, they aren't Jesus. It's true that in ourselves, no one is like Jesus, but it is also true that it is not us living this Christian life but Christ living in us (Gal. 2:20). Therefore, our goals should be no less than the perfect standard that Jesus set for us.
