Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and [that] your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.
Note 63 at Joh 15:16: We didn't find God; He found us. God wasn't lost; we were. It is God who draws us to Himself (Joh 6:44), gives us the faith to believe (Eph 2:8), and works His pleasure in us (Php 2:13). Remembering our debt (Ro 1:14) will motivate us to bring forth fruit.
Note 64 at Joh 15:16: We all have a God-given purpose in this life--to bring forth fruit. Just as a person plants a tree and expects to reap fruit from it, God expects fruit from us (Lu 13:6-9).
Note 65 at Joh 15:16: Notice not only that Jesus ordained us to bring forth fruit but also that our fruit should remain. Many times we Christians, in our zeal to bring forth fruit, aren't too concerned with whether it lasts or not. That is not the way God feels. Only the fruit that lasts will receive the Lord's stamp of approval. No doubt His statistics will vary greatly from ours.
