John 15:16
Previous Verse
John 15:16
Next Verse

Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and [that] your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.

Note 63 at Jn. 15:16: We didn't find God. He found us. God wasn't lost; we were. It is God who draws us to Himself (Jn. 6:44), gives us the faith to believe (Eph. 2:8), and works His pleasure in us (Phil. 2:13). Remembering our debt (Rom. 1:14) will motivate us to bring forth fruit.

Note 64 at Jn. 15:16: We all have a God-given purpose in this life -- to bring forth fruit. Just as a man plants a tree and expects to reap fruit from it, God expects fruit from us (Lk. 13:6-9).

Note 65 at Jn. 15:16: Notice that Jesus not only ordained us to bring forth fruit, but also that our fruit should remain. Many times, Christians in their zeal to bring forth fruit aren't too concerned with whether it lasts or not. That is not the way God feels. Only the fruit that lasts will receive the Lord's stamp of approval. No doubt, His statistics will vary greatly from ours.
