And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one:
Note 110 at Joh 17:22: The Greek word rendered "glory" in this verse is "DOXA." According to Vine's Expository Dictionary, glory is used "of the nature and acts of God in self-manifestation, i.e., what He essentially is and does, as exhibited in whatever way he reveals Himself." Therefore, Jesus giving us the same glory that His Father gave Him means He has given us that divine nature (2Pe 1:4) and the power that comes with it to enable us as His followers to walk in this unity (see note 108 at Joh 17:21). There are reasons but no excuses for the division in the body of Christ.
