Pilate then went out unto them, and said, What accusation bring ye against this man?

Note 3 at Jn. 18:29: Pilate accommodated these Jews by going out to them. Mark 15:15 says that the reason Pilate finally crucified Jesus, even when he knew Jesus was innocent, was because he wanted to content the people. These statements reveal that Pilate was not your typical Roman tyrant. He was comparatively weak and was therefore deposed by Tiberius Caesar in A.D. 36 and banished to Gaul (see note 2 at Lk. 3:1, p. 31).
