John 19:12
Next Verse

And from thenceforth Pilate sought to release him: but the Jews cried out, saying, If thou let this man go, thou art not Caesar's friend: whosoever maketh himself a king speaketh against Caesar.

Note 2 at Jn. 19:12: Pilate had tried many things to get Jesus released (see note 1 at Mt. 27:17, p. 464), but this was the clinching argument. They changed the accusations from just a religious nature and made them political. They were saying Jesus was a threat to Caesar and that Pilate would be participating in treason if he didn't condemn Him to death.
