Note 6 at Jn. 19:14: As mentioned in note 3 at John 1:39, page 40, the Jews reckoned time from sunrise which would make the sixth hour approximately twelve noon by Jewish reckoning. However, Matthew (Mt. 27:45) Mark (Mk. 15:25, 33) and Luke (Lk. 23:44) all clearly state that they crucified Jesus at 9:00 a.m. (Mk. 15:25) and that there was darkness from noon till 3:00 p.m. when Jesus died. Therefore, John must be using the Roman method of reckoning time which started at midnight. This would mean Jesus was condemned by Pilate here at about 6:00 a.m. (see note 6 at Mk. 15:25, p. 474).
