John 21:7
Previous Verse
John 21:7
Next Verse

Therefore that disciple whom Jesus loved saith unto Peter, It is the Lord. Now when Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he girt [his] fisher's coat [unto him], (for he was naked,) and did cast himself into the sea.

Note 4 at Jn. 21:7: This was the second time that some of these disciples had experienced a miraculous catch of fish at the word of Jesus after a frustrating night of fruitless labor (Lk. 5:4-9). It is no doubt that the familiarity of this event caused John to recognize that it was Jesus who had spoken to them.

Note 5 at Jn. 21:7: The Greek word used for naked is "gumnos," meaning "clad in the undergarment only (the outer being laid aside)" -- W.E. Vine, page 425.
