John 21:11
Previous Verse
John 21:11
Next Verse

Simon Peter went up, and drew the net to land full of great fishes, an hundred and fifty and three: and for all there were so many, yet was not the net broken.

Note 7 at Joh 21:11: There were many kinds of fish in the Sea of Galilee. John's special mention of these fish being "great" leads us to believe that these were large fish. Josephus wrote of the Coracin fish in the Capernaum area (The War of the Jews, Book 3, Chapter 10, Section 8), which included the Sea of Galilee. This fish could have been a relative of the catfish and grew up to three feet in length. If these fish were all "great" fish, approaching three feet in length, their weight could have been from 300 to 600 pounds. This provides us with quite a commentary on the physical strength of Peter.

Note 8 at Joh 21:11: This catch of fish was miraculous not only in the number of fish that were caught but also in that the net was not broken. If the Lord provides us with a miracle supply, He always gives us the ability to receive it.
