John 21:11 |
Next Verse |
Simon Peter went up, and drew the net to land full of great fishes, an hundred and fifty and three: and for all there were so many, yet was not the net broken.
Note 7 at Jn. 21:11: There were many kinds of fish in the Sea of Galilee. John's special mention of these fish being "great" (see ref. i at Jn. 21:11, p. 501) leads us to believe that these were large fish. Josephus wrote of the Coracinus fish, which inhabited the Sea of Galilee, that it is a relative of the catfish and grows up to three feet in length. If these fish were all "great" fish, approaching three feet in length, then the weight of these fish could have been from 300 to 600 pounds. This provides us with quite a commentary on the physical strength of Peter.
Note 8 at Jn. 21:11: Not only was this catch of fish miraculous in the number of fish that were caught, but it was also a miracle that the net was not broken. If the Lord supplies us with a miracle supply, He always gives us the ability to receive it.
