Next Verse |
And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, [thou that art] highly favoured, the Lord [is] with thee: blessed [art] thou among women.
Note 2 at Lu 1:28: Mary was surely blessed among women to be chosen to be the mother of Jesus (Lu 1:28, 42, 45, and 48). However, she was a sinner herself and needed a Savior (Ro 3:23). Jesus was deity, even though He was born of a woman who was not deity, because God Himself was the father (see note 1 at Lu 1:27). When a woman stood among the multitude and began to bless Mary, Jesus said, "Yea rather, blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it" (Lu 11:27-28), thereby placing a greater blessing on the followers of Christ than on the mother of the Christ. Compare this with the blessing placed on Jael in Jdg 5:24.
