Luke 1:28
Next Verse

And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, [thou that art] highly favoured, the Lord [is] with thee: blessed [art] thou among women.

Note 2 at Lk. 1:28: Mary was surely blessed among women to be chosen to be the mother of Jesus (Lk. 1:28,42,45,48). However, she was a sinner herself and needed a Savior (Rom. 3:23). Jesus was deity, even though He was born of a woman who was not deity, because God Himself was the father (see note 1 at Lk. 1:27 above). When a woman stood among the multitude and began to bless Mary, Jesus said, "Yea rather, blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it" (Lk. 11:27- 28), thereby placing a greater blessing on the followers of Christ than on the mother of the Christ. Compare with the blessing placed on Jael in Judges 5:24.
