And they made signs to his father, how he would have him called.
Note 1 at Lk. 1:62: This would imply that Zacharias was deaf as well as dumb. There is no indication of his being deaf before the angel Gabriel struck him with dumbness, so if he was indeed deaf, it could have been a part of his punishment.
