Previous Verse
Luke 2:34
Next Verse

And Simeon blessed them, and said unto Mary his mother, Behold, this [child] is set for the fall and rising again of many in Israel; and for a sign which shall be spoken against;

Note 3 at Lu 2:34: It is interesting to note that Simeon directed this prophecy to Mary and not to Joseph. This was a departure from the strong preeminence that the father enjoyed in the Jewish family. Simeon knew nothing about Joseph and Mary. The Holy Ghost, in prophecy, was subtly mentioning the virgin birth.
