Luke 4:2 |
Next Verse |
Being forty days tempted of the devil. And in those days he did eat nothing: and when they were ended, he afterward hungered.
Note 2 at Lu 4:2: The way Luke stated Jesus' temptation is different from Matthew's and Mark's accounts. It is implied in this verse that Jesus was tempted throughout the forty-day period.
Note 3 at Lu 4:2: Normally hunger leaves a person after the first few days of a fast. When hunger returns (usually about forty days), the body is actually beginning to starve, and food must be eaten. Jesus was starving, and this was a very real temptation (see note 1 at Mt 4:2).
