And the devil said unto him, All this power will I give thee, and the glory of them: for that is delivered unto me; and to whomsoever I will I give it.
Note 6 at Lk. 4:6: This temptation would have been no temptation if Satan did not have control of the kingdoms of this world (Jn. 12:31; 14:30; 2 Cor. 4:4; Rev. 13:2,4,7). First Corinthians 15:24-28 with Revelation 11:15-17 shows that God has not yet exercised His great power and reigned as absolute monarch over this world. He gave that dominion to Adam (Gen. 1:26-28), and Adam yielded it to Satan through submitting to his temptation (Gen. 3:6 with Rom. 6:16; 1 Tim. 2:14). Jesus won back that dominion, not by worshiping the devil, but by conquest (Mt. 28:18; Eph. 1:19-22; 1 Pet. 3:22). However, Jesus is now reigning through His body, the church; and therefore, we do not see all enemies subdued unto Him yet. God has always owned all things (hence Ps. 24:1), yet He delegated the control of the earth to man (Ps. 115:16).
