Next Verse

The Spirit of the Lord [is] upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,

Note 2 at Lk. 4:18: The Old Testament prophesied the coming Messiah being anointed (Dan. 9:24), which was fulfilled at Jesus' baptism (Mt. 3:15-17), and to which Jesus is making reference here. Jesus had no sin and no limitations in the sense that we do, and yet He didn't begin His ministry until He was anointed or empowered by the Holy Spirit; even the Godhead doesn't work independent of each other. They are totally dependent upon each other. This indicates how much more we must be dependent upon the power that we receive after the Holy Ghost is come upon us (Zech. 4:6; Acts 1:8).
