And he stood over her, and rebuked the fever; and it left her: and immediately she arose and ministered unto them.

Note 1 at Lk. 4:39: The Greek word used here for "rebuke" is Sepitimao" and is the same word used when Jesus rebuked (1) evil spirits (Mt. 17:18; Mk. 1:25; 9:25; Lk. 4:35, 41; 9:42), (2) the winds and sea (Mt. 8:26; Mk. 4:39; Lk. 8:24), and (3) disciples (Mk. 8:33; Lk. 9:55). This signifies that this fever was of the devil and not of God (Acts 10:38) and demonstrates not the passive position of "if it be thy will," but the attitude of authority we are to have when ministering healing to the sick.
