Previous Verse
Luke 7:38
Next Verse

And stood at his feet behind [him] weeping, and began to wash his feet with tears, and did wipe [them] with the hairs of her head, and kissed his feet, and anointed [them] with the ointment.

Note 3 at Lu 7:38: The custom in Middle Eastern countries at this time was to eat meals in a reclining position facing the table with feet behind you. The open courtyards of this day allowed strangers to wander in to observe your feasts if they so desired.

Possibly in response to Jesus' invitation, "Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest" (Mt 11:28), this woman wandered in and stood at His feet behind Him and began her ministry to Jesus.
