Next Verse |
And Jesus answering said unto him, Simon, I have somewhat to say unto thee. And he saith, Master, say on.
Note 4 at Lu 7:40: Jesus answered Simon although Simon hadn't said anything. Jesus was moving in the gifts of the Spirit that allowed Him to perceive Simon's heart, and that was exactly what Simon thought Jesus should have done with the woman. It is evident that Jesus knew all about the woman (Lu 7:47), even as the woman at Jacob's well (Joh 4:17-18). However, He didn't mention this woman's sins to her, because she had humbled herself and repented. Jesus did expose Simon's heart because of his hypocrisy. God won't mention our sins to us unless we fail to mention them to Him (1Jo 1:9).
