(For he had commanded the unclean spirit to come out of the man. For oftentimes it had caught him: and he was kept bound with chains and in fetters; and he brake the bands, and was driven of the devil into the wilderness.)
Note 1 at Lk. 8:29: Demon-possessed people can exhibit a supernatural (not of God) strength as can be seen in this Gadarene demoniac breaking his chains. This was also evident in the demon-possessed man who beat up seven men who were trying to cast the unclean spirits out of him (Acts 19:13- 17).
