Behold, your house is left unto you desolate: and verily I say unto you, Ye shall not see me, until [the time] come when ye shall say, Blessed [is] he that cometh in the name of the Lord.
Note 6 at Lk. 13:35: This same prophecy of Jesus is recorded in Matthew 23:39. There are two possible fulfillments of this prophecy of Jesus. First, Jesus was not in Jerusalem at this time but was journeying towards it (v. 22). Jerusalem did not see Him again until His triumphant entry into Jerusalem (Mt. 21:1-11; Mk. 11:1-11; Lk. 19:29-44; Jn. 12:12-19). At that time the multitudes met Him as He entered the city and cried out word for word, "Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord" (Mt. 21:9; Mk. 11:9).
It could also possibly be referring to the second coming of the Lord when every knee shall bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God the Father (Phil. 2:10-11). That would also fulfill every detail of our Lord's prophecy. It's also possible that both of these are the fulfillment of this prophecy. Other prophecies were fulfilled in more than one way (Example: Lk. 4:18).
